Retirement

After attending 2 retirement parties, my mind started to wonder "will I ever retire? In this endless sea of case law, pleadings, legalese, will I ever be able to see the sunshine of getting paid for NOT working? (ok, I kinda get that now, but that's beside the point). It seems like I have just started in this rat race and I am already tired. Not a good sign. But then I began to reminisce about my old job..."I have been here for a little over 6 months and 2 people (just in this department) have retired. I was at my old job for a little over 2 years and NO ONE ever retired...that should say something...eh

Book Report

Ah yes, another finished book, Wolves in Chic Clothing, and let me start by saying it was MUCH better than the last. About a girl looking to make her fashion dreams come true and her brief stint in the limelight, this book was a much better read and very light-hearted. A true recommendation from a book divulging diva!

Short Weekend

Why do people say "the weekend was too short" like in the past they experienced some really long weekend where they were like "dang, it's only Saturday? This is the longest weekend ever!" Please. Every weekend goes by "fast" because as soon as Friday night rolls around, we are already thinking about how we have to dredge back to work on Monday. Nope. I will never understand the "short weekend" comment. Same for holidays...but I must say, this past weekend went by pretty quickly :)

Book Report

I just finished another book, Heiress for Hire. It was...umm...well, let's just say the last few chapters were skipped because they amounted to nothing more than cheap porn. Eh. About a girl "trying to find herself" minus her daddy's money she meets a farmer guy and let's just say they "sow some royal oats." Not for me but maybe you will enjoy...if you like that sort of thing.

Book Report

I just finished another book, Your Big Break by Johanna Edwards. It's an "aight" book that will be especially enjoyed by young singles...I recommend it for a quick quirky read :)

Memorial Day

Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day. Get the history of Memorial Day here. Also, here is a video to remind us what Memorial Day is about (be forewarned, it's a wee bit depressing). Let's remember, war is not about who wins but who is left. Also, let's not forget about our civilian friends who have crossed to the other side this year as well. We love you all. Thanks for the memories!

Forgot to Laugh

I hate it when people say something and then laugh hysterically, but it's really NOT funny. Do you chime in with a fake laugh, smile, or just look at them like they are crazy? I tend to do the latter but am sure it's probably rude. Don't get me wrong, people have looked at me crazy before, the only difference is I don't really care because sometimes I just crack my crazy self up...then there are the people who try to be serious when you are just joking...don't even get me started on them...posers ("I'm so high strung I don't make/laugh at jokes because life is so f-ing serious and you HAVE to treat it seriously or you will die old, broke and alone")--blah. I will probably die old and broke but I won't be alone and I will be laughing all the way to the f-ing grave knowing that I took this bull(spit) we call life for a ride and rode it until its horns fell off...so put that in your uppity pipe and smoke it :)

Book Report

I just finished another awesome book, Momzillas. I love I love I love this book and practically couldn't put it down. It's about a woman trying to survive among chic mommy wolves...granted if you don't have kids you may be not able to relate. By Jill Kargman, this book is sure to please.

Way Too Much

I have (once again) eaten way too much. It's sad really. You know the feeling after you have eaten and your stomach is all tight and you feel a little sluggish and gross? Yeah, I am totally there. But I keep reminding myself that tomorrow is another (hopefully slimmer) day...until then...eh

Good Luck!

Who can pass up such a killer sweep? If you win, you have to invite me over!

It's Friday!

And I am at work with absolutely nothing to do. I usually telecommute this Friday but I missed Monday so I am here. Of course when I show up my paralegal is like "you aren't supposed to be here" to which I reply "ah but I am full of surprises! (now work)" tee hee. So I think I will update my blog (check), go get some doughnuts, read, play a few games online, eat again and then stare into space for the rest of the day. Funny, today was "bike to work day" but I have yet to see any bikes. I didn't think that was going to go over very well...ah well, they had high hopes (which they had to be "high" in thinking I was going to plop my fat ass down on a bike and ride 30 miles to work...puhleez)
Happy Friday! Don't do anything this weekend I wouldn't do. I think we have a graduation to attend but hopefully hubs will forget about it and we will just sit at home and look at each other...wait, maybe the graduation will prove to be a good break from monotony...eh, we shall see.

Could it Be?

What makes us so interested in celebrities’ lives? What makes us the driving force behind dangerous and intruding paparazzi tactics and the spending of thousands of dollars on therapy, weight loss procedures and plastic surgery? Is it that we take comfort in knowing, even though a person is worth millions, she still looks like hades without makeup? In some cases, she looks worse than you! That despite all the nannies, personal trainers, and hip clothing, she still has weight issues, marriage drama and imperfections. Is that what really gets us through the day? Knowing that even celebrities are hit by grim realities and are no better than you when they succumb to drug, alcohol and sex addictions. They still have uncontrollable kids, bills they cannot pay and people who hate them for no reason. But yet we continue to set them up on a pedestal of "greatness" as the idea of someone who we would like to be. Hoping, one day, by chance, it will be us gracing magazine covers, attending runway fashion shows and accepting 50 boxes of Marc Jacobs’ latest collection compliments to the designer himself. Are we more in love with the dream or the reality? Hmm...

Book Report

Ah! I just finished yet another awesome book. Obviously, an easy read (I finished it in a day and a half) I would recommend it for a quick, light reading. It explores a woman's stumbling to find the meaning of happiness, and, while I don't think she ever finds it, I think she finds what it more certainly is not.

Whatever Happened To...

Bozo the Clown? We call a lot of weird men Bozos but I have to admit I really enjoyed watching the show when I was in preschool...Winning $20 for making a ball into a bucket was like winning a million for shooting a ball through a hoop! I always wanted to be on the show...ah well. Funny, his hair looks like mine!

Sickness

When a person gets sick, it's like someone slowing down a record. We go full speed ahead making loud, energetic music until, suddenly, someone comes and slows the tempo. That "someone" for me was a sore/swollen throat. All mother's day weekend I tried to be in denial and pretend nothing was wrong but oh, something was/is wrong. Nothing crummier than feeling crummy on a holiday...ugh The good news is I have had no appetite for the past week so it has to be weighing nicely on my mid-section. The bad part is I didn't get to truly enjoy my mother's day dinner which was super awesome from the Daily Review. I did get to see a movie, Next Day Air which was "aight" but, like my latest book, it seemed rushed and kinda random and not as funny as one would have hoped. It also didn't help I was sitting by some random high school students who snuck in and talked the entire time until I let out a "momma" sigh that had them look at me with eyes of fear and trepidation. That and I told them to "shut the hell up" a few times under my breath without even breaking a sweat. I guess once you have kids you can talk to other people's kids any kind of way. But they were being rude and I think of myself as teaching them "real life skills" because in real life, if you talk on your cell, talk loud and interrupt someone's movie that they have paid good, hard-earned money to see, you will more than likely get popped in the mouth...in this case, I left my frustration verbal...but oh my hand was twitching...All in all my weekend could have been better I guess but then again it could have been a lot worse so I shall NOT complain :)

Book Report

In my sickness I was able to finish my latest book, True Lies of a Drama Queen by Lee Nichols (of who I could find no bibliography). To be honest, the book had a slow start and I started just reading it to say I finished it. Thankfully it wasn't that long but, at the end, it just put some random stuff together to make it all work out...pretty awkward indeed. I guess we can't enjoy them all!

Unusual Friday

Is wrong that I just want to go home and go to sleep?! It's Friday for goodness sake! I should be happy, excited, ecstatic for work to be over and Friday night "play time" to begin. Instead, I am having visions of my bed and soft pillow. I need a life...no, I take that back, I need sleep...lots and lots of sleep.

Fun Fact

My loving (and insanely smart) sister has informed me that today (5/7/09) is one of six this century that features 3 consecutive odd numbers...now that's odd! I'll toast to that! (then again, I will pretty much toast to anything...)
So if a bunch of odd stuff happens to you today, just know it's written in the stars and tomorrow will be back to normal...here here!!

Whatever Happened To...

Right Said Fred? His hit I'm Too Sexy (the video isn't the original I don't believe but it still looks cooler...remix style) was short lived. But with a name like that, you can't go wrong..."Right?" said Fred.

Song of the Week

I know, I know we already have one but the week is going to have to share because we have 2 holidays in such a short period of time. So the second song of the week will be A Song for Momma by Boys II Men. Catch the lyrics here and give your mom what she REALLY wants for Mother's Day. Being a mother is a hard job folks..take it from me...I know.

Cinco De Mayo

Here's a nice short video on the history of Cinco De Mayo. Enjoy Margaritas, Fajitas, Flan and even a siesta in honor of this day!

Whatever Happened To...

Chivalry? Is it dead?

Song of the Week

Tomorrow is Cinco De Mayo! YAY! Can't wait to partake in my fair share of Tex Mex. Until then, let's bob our heads and shake our hips to Gloria Estefan's Turn the Beat Around (Lyrics) and Conga (Lyrics)--hell, I couldn't choose!

Book Report...

This weekend I finished my latest book Left Bank by Kate Muir of which I can find little except this short interview with her. Besides the long French words and names of places I have no idea about, the book was easy to follow and actually pretty addicting...had to be since I finished it in a week :) I recommend to anyone looking for a short, concentrated read..Bon appetite!
